Why Did My Lightroom Presets Disappear? How to Find Them Again (2026)

Why did my Lightroom presets disappear guide with missing presets shown in Lightroom Classic

Your Lightroom presets were there before, but now they seem to have disappeared.

This can happen after reinstalling Lightroom, switching to a new phone or computer, signing into a different Adobe account, experiencing a sync problem, or opening a different Lightroom Classic catalog.

If your Lightroom presets suddenly disappeared, do not immediately reinstall everything. First, work through the checks below to find out where your presets went.

Quick Fix: Why Did My Lightroom Presets Disappear?

The most common reasons presets that were previously available suddenly disappear are:

  • You are signed into Lightroom with a different Adobe account.
  • Your presets have not finished syncing to the device.
  • You reinstalled Lightroom Mobile before locally stored presets synced to the cloud.
  • You switched to a new phone, tablet, or computer.
  • The preset group is hidden or partially compatible with the photo you are editing.
  • Lightroom Classic opened a different catalog.
  • Lightroom Classic is using the Store presets with this catalog setting.
  • You expected presets from Lightroom Mobile or Desktop to automatically appear in Lightroom Classic.

The correct fix depends on whether you are using Lightroom Mobile, Adobe Lightroom Desktop, or Lightroom Classic.

1. Make Sure You Are Signed Into the Correct Adobe Account

If your presets disappeared from Lightroom Mobile or Adobe Lightroom Desktop, check your Adobe account first.

Presets associated with Lightroom’s cloud system are connected to the Adobe account you were using when they synced.

If you accidentally signed in with another email address, Lightroom may look completely different and your preset library may appear empty.

Open your Lightroom account settings and verify that the email address matches the Adobe account you normally use.

How to Find Your Account Settings in Lightroom Mobile

In Lightroom Mobile, go to your Library, tap the three-dot menu in the top-left corner, and select App Settings. From there, you can check the Adobe account currently signed into Lightroom.

If it is the wrong account, sign out and sign back in using the correct Adobe ID.

How to Find Your Account Settings in Adobe Lightroom Desktop

In Adobe Lightroom Desktop on Mac, click Lightroom in the top menu bar and select Preferences. Use the available account and sync information to confirm that you are signed into the Adobe account you normally use.

2. Check Whether Lightroom Is Still Syncing

If you are signed into the correct Adobe account but some presets are still missing, Lightroom may not have finished syncing them to your device.

Check Lightroom’s cloud or sync status and allow the app time to finish syncing.

This is especially important if you:

  • Recently installed Lightroom on a new device.
  • Recently signed back into your Adobe account.
  • Reinstalled Lightroom.
  • Have not opened Lightroom on the device for a while.
  • Have a slow or unstable internet connection.

How to Check Sync Status in Lightroom Mobile

In Lightroom Mobile, tap the cloud icon in the upper-right corner of the app. This opens Lightroom’s cloud status so you can see whether syncing is still in progress or has finished.

How to Check Sync Status in Adobe Lightroom Desktop

In Adobe Lightroom Desktop, click the cloud icon in the upper-right corner. Lightroom will show the current cloud sync status and whether your library is still syncing.

How to Check Sync Status in Lightroom Classic

In Lightroom Classic, click the cloud or Sync icon in the upper-right corner. This shows Lightroom Classic’s current syncing activity and whether syncing has finished.

How to check whether cloud syncing has finished in Lightroom Classic

Keep Lightroom open with a reliable internet connection while syncing finishes. In Lightroom Mobile and Adobe Lightroom Desktop, presets that had already synced to your Adobe account may reappear once syncing finishes. Lightroom Classic does not sync custom presets through the same cloud preset system.

3. Did Your Presets Disappear After Reinstalling Lightroom Mobile?

If your presets disappeared after deleting and reinstalling Lightroom Mobile, whether they return depends on whether they had synced before the app was removed.

Presets that successfully synced to Adobe’s cloud should become available again when you sign into the same Adobe account and allow Lightroom time to sync.

However, presets that existed only locally on the device and had not synced before Lightroom was uninstalled may no longer be available inside the reinstalled app.

If that happened, you may need to reinstall the original preset files.

If the preset files are no longer available but you previously backed up your phone or tablet, a device backup may also be worth checking.

4. Did Your Presets Disappear After Getting a New Phone or Tablet?

If you moved to a new device and your Lightroom presets are missing, first confirm that you are signed into the same Adobe account on both devices.

Then allow Lightroom to finish syncing.

If the presets had previously synced to your Adobe account, they should become available on the new device after the cloud library finishes updating.

If particular presets never synced from the old device, you may need to install those preset files again on the new device.

5. Check Whether the Presets Are Hidden or Partially Compatible

Sometimes presets have not actually disappeared. Lightroom may simply be hiding them from the current view.

This can happen when:

  • A preset group is hidden.
  • The preset is only partially compatible with the photo you are editing.
  • You are looking inside the wrong preset group.
  • A preset group is collapsed.

Because these settings differ between Lightroom Mobile, Adobe Lightroom Desktop, and Lightroom Classic, we have a separate step-by-step guide for finding them.

See How to Find Missing Presets in Lightroom for instructions on hidden preset groups, partially compatible presets, Manage Presets, and preset visibility.

6. Did Your Presets Disappear in Lightroom Classic?

Lightroom Classic handles presets differently from the cloud-based Lightroom apps.

If presets that were previously available in Lightroom Classic suddenly disappear, one of the first things to check is which catalog Lightroom Classic opened.

If you work with more than one Lightroom Classic catalog, presets can appear in one catalog but seem to disappear when another catalog is opened, especially when presets are stored with a specific catalog.

Check the Store Presets With This Catalog Setting

In Lightroom Classic, open:

Mac: Lightroom Classic → Preferences → Presets

Windows: Edit → Preferences → Presets

Then look for:

Store presets with this catalog

Where to find Store presets with this catalog in Lightroom Classic

If this setting is enabled, some presets may be associated with a specific Lightroom Classic catalog.

Opening another catalog can therefore make those presets appear to have disappeared even though the preset files still exist.

7. Did Your Presets Disappear After Resetting Lightroom Classic Preferences?

If your Lightroom Classic presets seemed to disappear after resetting Lightroom preferences, the files may still be stored with your catalog.

Adobe notes that resetting Lightroom Classic preferences can cause Lightroom to stop pointing to presets stored with a catalog, making the presets appear to be missing.

Check the Store presets with this catalog setting again and make sure Lightroom Classic is using the expected catalog and preset location.

8. Lightroom Mobile and Desktop Presets Do Not Automatically Sync to Lightroom Classic

This is an important difference between Lightroom apps.

If your presets appear in Lightroom Mobile or Adobe Lightroom Desktop but are missing from Lightroom Classic, that does not necessarily mean anything was deleted.

Lightroom Classic does not use the same preset syncing system as the cloud-based Lightroom apps.

If you want those presets in Lightroom Classic, you may need to export or download the preset files and install them in Lightroom Classic separately.

To import presets into Lightroom Classic:

  1. Open Lightroom Classic.
  2. Open the Develop module.
  3. Find the Presets panel.
  4. Click the + icon.
  5. Select Import Presets.
  6. Select the preset files.
  7. Click Import.

9. Did Your Presets Disappear After a Lightroom Update?

Updating Lightroom should not normally delete your installed presets.

If presets appear to be missing immediately after an update, first check:

  • You are signed into the correct Adobe account.
  • Cloud syncing has finished.
  • Your preset groups are not hidden.
  • Partially compatible presets are visible.
  • Lightroom Classic opened the correct catalog.
  • The Store presets with this catalog setting has not changed.

In Lightroom Classic, Adobe states that presets should migrate when Lightroom Classic is updated or upgraded.

If they appear missing afterward, it is worth checking the preset location and catalog settings before reinstalling everything.

10. Check Whether the Presets Are Still Installed Before Reinstalling Them

Before importing the preset collection again, check whether Lightroom still recognizes the presets.

Reimporting presets that are already installed can cause a duplicate or invalid message instead of fixing the original problem.

If Lightroom tells you the presets are duplicates, they may still exist inside your preset library but be hidden or located inside another group.

Use our How to Find Missing Presets in Lightroom guide before importing them again.

11. What If You Need to Reinstall the Presets?

If you have confirmed that the presets are no longer installed, you can reinstall them using the original preset files.

For complete installation instructions, follow our How to Install Lightroom Presets in 2026 guide.

If Lightroom refuses to import the preset files, use our Lightroom Presets Failed to Import: How to Fix It guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did my Lightroom presets suddenly disappear?

Your presets may appear to disappear if you sign into a different Adobe account, Lightroom has not finished syncing, a preset group becomes hidden, Lightroom Classic opens another catalog, or presets are stored with a specific Lightroom Classic catalog.

Why did my presets disappear after reinstalling Lightroom?

If your presets had synced to Adobe’s cloud before Lightroom was removed, they should become available again after signing into the same Adobe account and allowing Lightroom to sync. Presets that existed only locally and never synced may need to be reinstalled.

Will deleting Lightroom delete my presets?

Synced Lightroom content can become available again after reinstalling and signing into the same Adobe account. However, locally stored content that never synced may be lost when the app and its local data are removed.

Why are my presets missing on my new phone?

Make sure you are signed into the same Adobe account and wait for Lightroom to finish syncing. If the presets never synced from your previous device, reinstall the preset files on the new device.

Why are my Lightroom presets on Mobile but not Lightroom Classic?

Lightroom Classic does not automatically receive presets through the same cloud preset syncing system used by Lightroom Mobile and Adobe Lightroom Desktop. You may need to install the preset files separately in Lightroom Classic.

Why did my presets disappear when I changed Lightroom Classic catalogs?

If Store presets with this catalog is enabled, some presets may be stored with a particular catalog. Opening another catalog can make those presets appear to be missing.

Did a Lightroom update delete my presets?

Usually not. Lightroom Classic is designed to migrate presets during updates and upgrades. If presets seem to disappear after an update, check your account, sync status, preset visibility, catalog, and preset location before reinstalling them.

What if my presets are installed but still not showing?

If the presets are still installed but you cannot see them, follow our How to Find Missing Presets in Lightroom guide for hidden groups, partially compatible presets, sync status, and other visibility issues.
