What is the best setting for light and airy photos?
Light & Airy starts in camera:
- Soft, even light: open shade, window light, or golden hour
- Wide aperture: roughly f/1.8–2.8 for portraits
- Exposure: slightly to the right without clipping skin
- Scene choices: simple backgrounds; lighter wardrobe tones
These choices give the preset clean light to work with so edits stay bright and natural.
How to achieve the light and airy look
Apply your Light & Airy Base preset first. It sets the tone curve and color foundation. Then make minimal refinements only if needed:

Exposure & White Balance (only if needed)
- White Balance: warm or cool until skin looks neutral (not orange, not blue). If indoor light adds a green cast, add a touch of magenta (+2 to +8 Tint).
- Exposure: raise until skin sits just below clipping (watch highlight warnings). If the image feels flat, add a tiny Whites lift (+5 to +15) rather than heavy Contrast.

Skin tone (HSL) — only if needed
- Oranges (primary skin): Hue ±2 to nudge undertone to neutral; Saturation −5 to +5; Luminance +2 to +10 for a healthy lift.
- Reds (cheeks/lips/blemishes): Hue +2 to +6 to ease redness; Saturation −5 to −15 if cheeks look blotchy; Luminance 0 to +5.
- Tip: if you’re pushing any HSL slider beyond ~15 points, re-check White Balance first.

Shift+Cmd/Ctrl+C(Copy Settings) and check only White Balance, Exposure (and your preset/profile if needed). Select the rest, pressCmd/Ctrl+Shift+V(Paste) or click Sync… with those boxes checked. - Lightroom Mobile: Three dots (…) on the edited image → Copy Settings → select White Balance and Exposure → select the other images → Paste Settings.
